I was disappointed with my recent attempt to combine data from my mono and OSC cameras - here. I decided to complete a colour image with my Meade SCT / DSI3 combo - my first composite LRGB image in a long time.

Like it's oceanic nemesis this blue galaxy is a cosmic 'leviathan', 30 mLY away, and spanning ~120,000 LY. Taken over two short nights as we race towards mid-summer, 3 hours data will have to suffice. A yellowish core/bar gives way to intense blue starclouds, and starburst activity, and there are reports of a stellar tidal star stream surrounded by a pod of faint satellite galaxies.

Captured and calibrated in Nebulosity 4 and processed in Siril. Rev B - processed in Startools and Rev C using stretch and curves in Nebulosity.

Description: A slightly stronger stretch, shows off a fine halo around the galaxy, and perhaps a little more detail in the core. A little magenta for my taste, which I toned down from the colour constancy default. A little star reduction helped remove those unsightly eggs (guiding was around 1-1.5")

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
